UCL, one of the UK’s top universities, has recently taken out a 20 year lease within the former media centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. This extensive space, some 32,000 sq ft, will be known as ‘Here East’ and house the university’s school of the built environment (The Bartlett) and school of engineering.
This ambitious scheme will provide high-tech facilities for teaching, research and small scale prototyping. It will also include a robot hall and ‘make spaces’ capable of allowing work on full scale components from the aviation and construction industries.
Degafloor approved installation partner, ABG Flooring, was approached by Paragon Interiors Group plc to define a floor finish suitable for the robot hall and make spaces. The finish had to be capable of withstanding light industrial use and smooth enough to enable air skates, used to move very heavy equipment and components, to operate.
Having assessed the client’s needs, ABG specified and installed a Degafloor S system to over 15,000 sq ft of floor area. The S system is a high performance floor coating which offers excellent wear resistance and can be installed incredibly quickly due to its unique 2 hour cure time.
Speaking on behalf of ABG Flooring, Adrian Gee said ‘I am delighted to have been involved with this prestigious project and wish UCL every success with the new facility’.< Back to blog list
